The Declaration’s Journey

The Declaration’s Journey, presented by Griffin Catalyst, marks the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding by exploring the history and global impact of the Declaration of Independence from 1776 to today. With more than 100 nations having integrated its ideals into their own independence movements, the exhibition showcases how American Declaration of Independence has become one of the most influential political documents in modern history, gathering together for the first time in one place some of the most important and rare documents, works of art, and artifacts from around the world that reflect the complex 250-year history and legacy of the Declaration of Independence. 

Additional Offerings

An audio tour for the exhibition (with transcriptions) is available in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Mandarin Chinese, and Brazilian Portuguese, for $5 per unit ($3 for Members). Listen on a sanitized, Museum-issued device (available at front desk) or on your own mobile device. Audio tours may be pre-purchased with admission tickets. Purchasing the tour for use on your own device gives you continued access after your visit. An early-access guided tour and a Declaration-themed outdoor walking tour of the Museum's Old City neighborhood are also available.

The exhibition includes several offerings to make it accessible to all, such as a tactile book with Braille excerpts of select documents featured in the exhibition, raised portraits of key figures, a tactile composing stick interactive to help guests learn more about the Aurora printing press, and American Sign Language translations of exhibition films.

For students and teachers, virtual distance learning programs and teacher professional development opportunities focusing on the exhibition content, as well as a teacher resource guide, are available.

The Declaration’s Journey series traces the story of the Declaration of Independence from Jefferson’s pen to movements for freedom around the world. In partnership with the Museum, the series explores how its words inspired revolutions, challenged injustice, and continue to shape our shared pursuit of equality.

The Declaration's Journey: A Convening on the International Legacy

To further explore the content of the exhibition and the international impact of the Declaration of Independence, the Museum will host a two-day convening on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026 and Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026. Join us for an exploration of how the Declaration influenced other independence movements in the 250 years since its proclamation.
