Tour Guides Younger Audiences Through Museum’s Core Galleries With Playfulness, Creativity

The Museum of the American Revolution today announces the release of a new resource designed to further enhance and bring to life the Museum’s core gallery experience for young visitors. Created with ages 7-12 specifically in mind, the History Explorers Audio Tour utilizes storytelling and sound effects to help young people more deeply engage with the stories of the diverse people and complex events of the Revolutionary era – captivating their imagination and making learning a memorable adventure.

The History Explorers Audio Tour contains educational best practices, sensory and tactile directives, and first-person interpretation of historical figures like King George III, Phillis Wheatley, and even a Liberty Tree, to guide listeners from 1763 and Colonial America through to today. Engaging young people and families more deeply in the Museum experience impacts the Museum’s mission to ensure that the promise of the American Revolution endures.

“Our History Explorers Audio Tour brings history and the Revolutionary generation to life for our youth and instills in them that they are the next revolutionary generation,” said Rebecca Franco, Family Programs Manager for the Museum. “They will not only gain knowledge about the complex events of our nation’s founding but also develop a sense of curiosity and wonder that inspires them to explore further.”

The History Explorers Audio Tour will be available for visitors starting June 21 to check out at the Museum’s front desk. The audio tour joins an existing, exciting slate of resources and activities available for young people at the Museum, including costumed living history, hands-on learning opportunities, scavenger hunts and family guides, and daily special programming. From 9-10 a.m. on June 21, the Museum will also celebrate the grand re-opening of Revolution Place, the Museum’s family discovery center, which has moved to the first floor. The event for Members and invited guests will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony and special programming.

The Museum’s audio tours, including the History Explorers Audio Tour, can be accessed on a Museum-issued device available for check out at the front desk for $3 for members, $4 for groups, and $5 for the public with regular admission.
